Methodology notes
Your pin snaps to a ~110 m grid cell, and the circle includes whole cells —
precision is about one city block, and the circle's edge is approximate.
When the circle spans more than one ward, every ward is shown with its share of your
circle. Slivers under 5% are folded into "other".
Different measures see different years: crashes begin 2015, Divvy 2020, licenses 2002,
permits 2006, property sales 1999. Rates are per covered year, and a measure that cannot
see a term is left blank — never shown as zero.
Neighborhood-statistic blends (income, rent) mix ~1-square-mile grid values; some are
themselves smoothed from ward data and are tagged accordingly.
New licenses are licenses, not businesses; sale volume is dollars changing hands, not
prices going up.
"Closures seen on Google" are businesses our licence↔places matching links to a
Google listing marked permanently closed — recent and real, but incomplete by nature.
Privacy: the pin's coordinates reach our server, where requests are
logged to understand how this page is used. An address you type is resolved on our own
server (never a third party's) and is not stored or logged — only the resulting
coordinates are. Completeness details for every dataset live in the
data notes .
