Ward by ward
All fifty wards, and what the numbers can honestly say about them.
Every ward in Chicago, ranked against the others on the measures Ward Wise Penlight collects. Each ranking comes with what undercuts it, because a place in a list of fifty looks more precise than it usually is.
How to read this
A rank is not a grade.
Wards are often bunched so tightly that first and fifteenth describe the same conditions. When that happens, the line says so.
Some measures are modeled.
A few are statistical estimates of what a ward is likely to be like, not counts of anything inside it. Those are marked in the report.
Ward lines moved in 2023.
Boundaries were redrawn, so measures tied to a ward field describe a differently shaped place before that year. Neighborhoods and χGRIDs did not move.
This is not a scorecard for anyone.
Rankings reflect decades of conditions, geography, and investment. They are not a measure of any office's work, and nothing here is written as one.
